La Plata County Humane Society(LPCHS) is an open-admission animal shelter serving La Plata and surrounding counties. It handles more than 3,000 animals every year. LPCHS has been located in Durango for over 40 years now. All of the animals that are adopted out are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, go home with a free ID tag and are accommodated with the upmost care while they are at our facility. The Shelter also provides low-cost spay & neuter surgeries for the public as well as vaccinations and microchipping. The Shelter has a volunteer & foster program that has a wide variety of opportunities. We’ve also implemented many new programs for the dogs and cats, so that their lives are more enriched during their stay at LPCHS. We’re able to expand and bring in new ideas because of our generous and supportive community. LPCHS is funded through grants, the Thrift Store next door and generous donations from the public.(970) 259-2847
