Founded in 1946, the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) is an animal sheltering and welfare organization based in Alexandria, Virginia. The AWLA operates the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter from which 1,300 animals are adopted each year. In addition to adoptions, the AWLA provides behavior and training advice, animal control and licensing, wildlife rescue, reduced-cost spay and neuter certificates as well as rabies and microchipping clinics.
